Week 6 at Scott Carpenter!

This week was built around creating a strong bond between table groups. We started the week off with a team builder that required table groups to work together to make the most sentences out of words that were provided to them. This activity worked on creative sentence making and had everyone laughing at the crazy sentences groups came up with.

On Tuesday we played Kahoot and tables competed against each other to see who remembered all the SEL Domains, what community is and other key ideas we covered these last couple weeks.

Then on Wednesday, we worked as a group to build the best spaghetti and marshmallow challenge. Which was an amazing team building activity and the groups in every class had an amazing time!

Since this week was a short week we had our fun Friday on Thursday this week we called No Think Thursday! We learned a game called GAGA Ball and every class loved this game! This week was incredibly fun and can't wait to dive deep into some pretty great content this week.

Week 5 at Scott Carpenter

This week was a whirlwind of excitement and fun! On Monday we learned about the different domains of Social Emotional Learning.

The class then made up skits to give real life examples of what each domain looks like in their life. On Tuesday we started with CNN10 and then talked about the current events the broadcast talked about.

We then headed over to the Technology room to research famous Mentor/Mentee relationships. Then they had to find an article or video to support their findings.

On Wednesday we reviewed the SEL Domains and talked further about what Social Justice Issues are and why they are important in their lives.

On Thursday and Friday we made our Time Capsules and everyone worked incredibly hard to finish them!

Week 4 at Scott Carpenter

This week, although short, was jammed full of fun. On Tuesday We started the day with CNN10 and talked about current events. Since the students haven't really started getting homework we used this day to finish our Shared agreements and our Coat of Arms.

Then on Wednesday we did speed dating to help get to know everyone and write a list of who each person would want to be paired with. On Thursday we were going to start our SEL lesson plan, however, an activity I thought was just going to be our warmup ended up taking the entire class. I had the students write a letter to their Mentor/Mentee with questions like "I need the most help with...", "The best way to approach me when I am upset is..." and other short question prompts to help the Mentor and Mentee better understand each other.

This week we are looking forward to learning about SEL and building a strong foundation for the Mentors and Mentees!

Week 3 at Scott Carpenter

This week we worked on building strong classroom expectations and building strong relationships. We experimented with different Mentor parings and learned a lot about each other. We created Shared agreements and tried our best to understand why building community in our classroom is important.

Throughout the week each class discovered new things about each other and by Friday afternoon each class started to feel like a coherent group that new how to get each other involved and stay engaged.

We are all looking forward to assigning Mentors to Mentees this week!
